Homemade Chocolate

Many parents from our group pinged me in private for the recipe of the homemade chocolate.
Here it goes.......... This Tasted like Diary milk. Very easy choco sweet which can be made in just  10 mins and satisfy the kids chocolate craving sensation. Big hit at our home

Milk powder 200 gms
Sugar  3/4th cup to 1 cup
Cocoa powder 3 tblspoon
Butter  3 tblspoon (shoul be in room temperature, should not be hard)
Water 1/2 cup
Chopped nuts like Cashew or walnut or peanut


Mix dry Cocoa powder and milk powder. without any lumps in a bowl
Greese a plate with ghee and keep it ready to pour the sweet mixture
Heat a heavy bottom pan and add water and sugar.
Boil till you achieve one string consistency (to find this, put a drop of this mixture in a small cup of water, it should not get dissolved, it should settle and for a small ball).
Once it attains this consistency, put the butter and mix well.
Pour the cocoa mixture immediately after the butter melts.
Mix well, do not add excess water, it will look as if the water content is less.
Exactly after 2 min, pour the sweet mixture to the greesed plate and spread
after 5 mins jus draw markings with a knife or a pizza cutter
Allow it to cool completely and then remove it into pieces.
Canbe kept for more than 5 days when refrigirated..

Its been 2 years since we launched Shikakai powder, Green gram(Payatha maavu), thanks to all for encouraging us to take it to the next level. We have been receiving requests  from many of you to launch Pure Kasthuri Manjal Powder (Wild Turmeric) for daily usage, so we have planned to share pure kasthuri manjal powder. This Kasthuri Manjal is brought from Country medicine shop, sun dried and is being grinded in a machine which is used exclusively only for grinding turmeric alone. So there is no possibility of any chilly powder getting mixed or any other flour getting mixed.

Kasthuri Manjal/ Wild turmeric is a product which is used only for external purpose. This is not a normal turmeric which we use for cooking purposes. It is very fragrant and aromatic. Below are some advantages  of kasthuri manjal

  • Wild turmeric treats a variety of skin diseases from acne, eczema to insect bites on the skin.
  • It is very fragrant than the normal turmeric. 
  • This Turmeric is a natural antiseptic and natural deodorant which helps in getting rid of body odour and other unwanted bacteria developing in the skin
  • Widely used for babies as it minimizes the growth of hair all over the body.

We get the dried Kasthuri manjal and sun dry it again for 2 days till it becomes crisp. Then this is powdered in order to get pure form of Kasthuri Manjal.

Generally this powder is applied while taking bath and washed with ubtan  / green gram flour or mild soap. Do a patch test before using any turmeric powder. If you have a sensitive skin or burning sensation, you can mix with rose water and for dry skin please mix with curd or milk and use this powder. Mixing wild turmeric and coconut oil helps in getting rid of stretch marks and black marks in the skin.   Kindly avoid using kasthuri manjal during menstruation. See to that the turmeric powder is stored in an airtight container. Take as much as quantity as and when needed.

You can keep this product for more than 6 months if maintained properly. Make sure you take little for the usage and store the rest in an airtight container. See to that the powder is kept away from any moisture.

Dear Friend's,

I started this blog 3 years ago , when my second child was 1 yr old. Then as she grew up, did not find time for blogging. Till now I have blogged only cooking recepies. But this time its different. Its about one of  our Ancient Indian practice which  is using Shikakai for washing our hair.


I have gone to my native for vacation. Generally during summer my Mom and my Grand Mother prepares the items which can be dried and used for the whole year. Two items from that are SHIKAKAI Powder and PAYATHA MAAVU (Green Moong Powder used for washing face) .I hope we all are aware of Shikkakai Powder which includes many ingredients for the growth and health of hair. From my birth i have been using this Shikakai powder which is homemade. This time I have planned to learn the recipe from my grand mother and do it myself. Incase any of you need Homemade Shikakai Powder just let me know, I'll do it in bulk.

Please note that I am not doing it as a Business. I am also a Mom of two kids. I generally try to restrict my self from buying these kind of items outside. But nowadays we do not have time to do all these things because it is a long process and time consuming. So I thought I would help mommies like me to do this process. As this is not a business , I will collect orders and make as per the requirement. This is a product which can be prepared only during hot summer , so i may not have extra stock. In case you need it later , you can always let me know as I can do this process during October month (Purattasi month in tamil) when the sun is at peak.

For now I will take orders for Shikakai Powder and Payatha maavu (Mainly used for babies)

I buy all the items from reputed shops like Dabba Chetty Kadai, Mylapore , which is well known to Chennai people. It is a Nattu Marundhu shop which is there for more than 4 to 5 generations.

Bonda is a easy and authentic recipe , it doesnt need lots of ingredients. Sometimes when i want to make vada in auspicious days, it will not comes out well , during that time Ill jus add some pepper and curry leaves and make is it as bonda.

Ull Need :

1. Urud dhall - 2 cups
2. Greenchilly - 1
3. Pepper - 10 - 12
4. Curry leaves
5. Salt
6. Oil for frying

Method :

1. Soak Urud dhall in Hot water for 20 min.
2. Drain all the water and transfer it to a mixie jar.
3. Add salt and green chilly and grind well to a smooth paste.
4. Add water only if necessary. When u take a small portion it must drop like a ball,
5. Put this mixture in a bowl and mix it with pepper and chopped curry leaves.
6. Heat oil in a kadai.
7. Take a small portion from the mixture and drop it in the kadai.
8. You can take the mixture from the bowl with your hand or a spoon.
9. Turn both sides and fry till golden brown.
10. It will taste very good when served with Coconut chutney.
